Show me how you would check the parking brake (hand brake) for excessive wear, make sure you keep safe control of the vehicle
Apply foot brake firmly. Demonstrate by applying parking brake (hand brake) so that when it is fully applied it secures itself, and is not at the end of the working travel.
Apply the foot brake, this will stop the vehicle from rolling forwards or backwards.
Release the hand brake and then reapply it.
Remove your foot from the foot brake; if the vehicle remains stationary and the handbrake hasn't travelled too far upwards then everything is OK.
Your should check your hand brake every month.
If the car starts to roll or the hand brake is at an angle of more than 70% then you should visit a garage to get the problem corrected.
